Thus Says the Lord

Appointed by God to call His people to repentance, prophets carried a responsibility that could not be taken lightly. They pleaded with the people to abandon evil and embrace righteousness, yet boldly declared the consequences of turning away from God-by persisting in their sins, the people were refusing to allow Him to bless them.

 

Zdravko Stefanovic explores the life and times of each of the men for whom the books known as the “minor prophets” were named. Differentiated in this way from the lengthier books of Isaiah, Ezekiel, and Jeremiah, these concise messages express the heart of God for His wayward people. Mercy is mingled with justice-His purpose is salvation, not revenge.

 

Stefanovic also considers the circumstances under which each prophet laboured, the issues he confronted, and what his message meant for the people of his day. The human penchant for rebellion hasn’t lessened over the millennia, and the content of these 12 books is just as applicable to God’s people now as it was to His people then.

 

Zdravko Stefanovic, Ph.D., was born in Bosnia, in southern Europe. He completed his education in Croatia, France, and the United States, specializing in biblical languages and interpretation. At present he teaches in the School of Theology at Walla Walla University, and also serves as an adjunct professor at three schools in the Philippines and Europe. Stefanovic is married to Bozana, a mathematics professor, and they have two sons.
